As an English major, I have been asked multiple times over the years about when I begin my writing assignment. My first response is that I begin my assignments about two weeks before finals. My second answer is that I begin my coursework about a week before finals. I stand by my answer, because I want you to know when you sign up for courses like mine that you are putting in the work to prepare for finals. So what do I really mean by beginning?

When I begin a writing assignment, I write down everything I need to do. This means I go over every assignment with a fine-toothed comb to ensure that nothing is left out. I then do my best to get all of my coursework and class requirements completed before my term ends. I always complete my assignments on time no matter what, because I have planned ahead.

I am in a unique situation as a writing major. Most of my coursework requires intensive reading skills, which I obviously need. Therefore, I don’t do my writing assignment until after I have read every book I can find on the topic. When I do my assignment I always read it cover to cover, and I do my best to try and learn something new from each section. Some people breeze through their coursework and don’t do any research at all.

I do my writing assignment because I want to learn more about this subject and do my best in the class. I am also able to do my coursework at my own pace. This is very convenient for me because I do my coursework during my free time. I love doing my coursework at night after I have cooked dinner. I do my writing during the day when I am not tired and don’t want to do anything. As long as I do my course, I will do my writing assignment right along with the rest of my course.

As you may have figured out by now, I am very organized. I keep my life and my writing organized. I know where I am at any given moment in time. I can locate a certain term that I have forgotten within minutes if I know where to look. This is very advantageous for me because I am saving so much time by having an easy to find a definition for a term.

You should always do your writing in blocks. It really does not matter at all what you do, as long as you do it. Writing a paper, article or book in one block of time is considered efficient. If you do a paragraph, a book or even an essay all in one block of time, it is considered lazy. Lazy writing is very unproductive. However, if you do your writing in blocks, then you will be able to maximize the amount of time you have available for the writing task at hand.

Do not waste time by rewriting or re-writing your writing assignment several times. The only time this should ever happen is if you are being asked to write for someone else. There is no need to rewrite what was already written. If it was something that needed to be changed then you should make that change. Rewriting what was already written defeats the purpose of doing the assignment in the first place.

Once you have written your assignment, you then need to find the section or document that will describe the topic that you chose to write about. Repeat the steps above for the term paper or your essay. When you have written your term paper or essay, you should go over it with a fine tooth comb. You should check for mistakes as well as making sure the paper is perfect in every way.
