School sometimes asks our children to do extra school work especially if they have an extra day off. But why is homework always assumed to be about school work? Isn’t it more about having fun while doing the school work? Of course it is.
Many parents would say that homework is part of the growing up experience. Kids should learn how to handle their time, so that they can grow up being responsible individuals who know how to manage their time effectively. This is why you see kids doing chores, instead of doing their homework or doing their schoolwork. Children should also be given a free hand to decide how much homework they are going to do. As long as they are doing something that interests them, it is homework.
Parents should encourage their children to do their homework by giving rewards and prizes. Giving a small treat to your child for doing good is a good choice. You could also give them something that they like such as toys, stickers, etc. If the homework is easy, the child will be more willing to continue doing it.
If your child does not do his homework well, the first thing you should do is discuss it with him. The reason for this is because some children do not like homework, while others are too involved with school work. Talking about it with your child can help get them to do it.
The next step is to make sure that the child understands what he is doing. Homework is something that is assigned to a student in order to help them get good grades in school. Your child needs to know that school work is important, and that he/she is not a child that gets a free pass at doing school work. The child needs to know that the assignment is coming and that they need to do it. If your child is confused as to what is expected, then he/she may need to talk to his teacher about it.
